Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE REPORT BELOW OF A CHEST X-RAY. I HAVE GONE THRU A HEART BY-PASS 2 YR AGO AND PICKED UP PLEURAL EFFUSION LATER. THIS IS THE REPORT THAT WAS DONE IN NOV 2016. FRONTAL AND LATERAL VIEWS REVEAL A STABLE CARDIOMEDIASTINAL SILHOUETTE STATUS POST MEDIAN STERNOTOMY. IMPROVED AERATION HAS OCCURRED WITHIN THE LFT LUNG BASE THOUGH LINER SCAR AND / OR ATELECTASIS PERSISTS. RT HEMITHORAX IS CLEAR.
Stable cardiomediastinal silhouette post median sternotomy- the cardiomediastinal area refers to the heart and other structures in the center. According to the x ray, this appearance of the area is fine. They mention that this is after a procedure on the lungs
Improved aeration within the left lung base- there is more air in the lungs on the left, also good
Atelectasis persists- some of the lung on the left side is collapsed still though there is more air going in. This should improve
Rt hemithorax is clear- no problems on the left side of the chest
I hope this helps
